At The CEO Institute, our members are the heartbeat of every Syndicate. They bring their challenges, experiences, and leadership journeys into the room to foster powerful conversations and shared growth. Our Member Case Study series highlights the CEOs and business leaders who are shaping industries while strengthening their own capability through peer-to-peer learning.
Today, we speak with Jamie Hunt, Chief Executive of Anzor Fasteners in New Zealand. Jaimie shares how a focus on quality, people, and performance is helping him lead through industry disruption, and how The CEO Institute has become a trusted sounding board in his pursuit of continuous leadership growth.
Can you briefly describe your business and your role within the company?
I’m the Chief Executive of Anzor Fasteners, New Zealand’s leading distributor of stainless steel fasteners and hardware. We help customers across a wide range of industries build better by delivering high-performance fastening solutions with speed, technical expertise, and world class reliability.
How long have you been a member of The CEO Institute, and what initially led you to join?
I’ve been a member of The CEO Institute for three years. I joined for my own professional development - to learn, gain external perspectives, challenge my thinking, and connect with other business leaders.
What industry is your business in, and what are some of the key challenges unique to your sector?
We operate in the industrial distribution space, primarily servicing the construction, engineering & manufacturing, marine, and architectural sectors. A major challenge for us is competing with low-cost, low-quality importers— where the consequences of customers going elsewhere and using substandard product often aren’t apparent until much later. We also face the ongoing pressures of global supply chain volatility, raw material fluctuations, and increasing compliance expectations. Our focus is on helping our customers win — and the key to that for us is staying quality focussed and relentlessly people-centric, both in how we lead our team and how we support our customers.
How has your experience with The CEO Institute contributed to overcoming these challenges?
Being part of Syndicate 143 has been fantastic. The open dialogue and diverse experience within the group provides a trusted space for real-world problem-solving. This is because some of the challenges I face, may have already been overcome by some of the others in the syndicate. I am always taking away actionable insights from both the group and the great speakers presenting each meeting. Every session brings something valuable I can apply to the business.
Why would you recommend The CEO Institute to other business leaders seeking growth and peer support?
Leading a business can be isolating — but The CEO Institute offers a space where you’re surrounded by peers who understand the weight of the role. The support is genuine, the accountability helpful, and the learning constant. The quality of the speakers and content is outstanding; providing insights, challenges and inspiration, which I feel helps build me, and the rest of the syndicate, to be better leaders.
