A career starting with 21 years as a US Naval Officer, overlapping with professorial positions at several universities, and overlapping yet again with management consulting across several industries and focal areas. During Jim's career he has visited, lived and worked in 88 countries, and has called Perth, Western Australia home for 25 years.
Jim Winter’s Navy career included wartime engagements in several theatres of operation, and finally, consular duties in Australia. His professorial career includes systems acquisition management for the Defense Acquisition University and the University of Southern California. He has had further teaching across business, leadership and management, team building, project management, risk & safety management, organisational effectiveness, quality, supply chain management, and strategic procurement – predominantly at Curtin University Graduate School of Business, and in Curtin’s Masters of Project Management, and the Small Business Entrepreneurial Growth Program.
Jim’s consulting career is based upon his fully developed facilitation and teaching/training skills. His career has covered a broad range of industries including oil & gas (Shell, Chevron, OMV, INPEX, Diamond Offshore Drilling, Woodside), mining (Rio Tinto, BHP, FMG), construction (Clough, KBR, John Holland), law, accounting, and local government (Swan, Joondalup, Busselton), state (Justice, Police, FESA, Procurement, Small Business Development) and federal government. Most engagements have been in planning, teambuilding, leadership development, strategy, project management, engineering, process improvement, maintenance and operations, safety, and personal development.
