From 2012 to 2016, Michael led QUT's Information Systems School, elevating its research to a top ranking in Australia. During this period, he established industry-funded Chairs and developed the NESTT rapid redesign methodology.
As QUT’s Executive Director, he focused on sustainable partnership models and reducing research and curriculum latency, promoting multidisciplinary engagements with significant industry partners.
Michael's influential works, including the 'Handbook of Business Process Management,' have contributed to his h-index of 68 and over 21,800 citations as of July 2020.
Between 2008 and 2019, Michael delivered keynotes at prestigious conferences worldwide, such as the International Conference on Business Process Management and Gartner BPM Summits, focusing on digital innovation, revenue resilience, and trust management.
Since 2016, as Honorary Consul for Germany in Brisbane, Michael initiated Brisbane German Week and coordinated repatriation flights during the COVID-19 crisis, fostering cultural and economic exchanges between Germany and Australia.
